Family Tree Archives: Vital Tips For Family Tree Creation

Family Tree Archives are vital if you want to get to know whom you are descended from. Perhaps you want to know what particular set of circumstances happened to the people in your family line to bring you to where you are now, but you don't know where to get started. What you're trying to do is build a family tree and the best place to look for information is in family tree archives.

The building of family trees and genealogy are becoming a very popular hobby today. In fact, for many people family tree creation is much more than a hobby; there has been so much global migration, so many families have gotten separated, and people want to get to know who else was in their family. They want to know where they lived and how they lived and even whether they are still alive.

Family tree archives have been constructed to hold millions and millions of data on families to help people find one another or construct their own histories. Thanks to the versatility of the Internet, it's easier today than it ever was to find archives that can help you piece together your family's history.

Family Tree Archives: Vital Tips For Family Tree Creation

Most of these exist in the form of online databases and which now make it possible to find a great deal of information about your family online. Even if no-one in your family has recorded any information pertaining to the current generations there is a large amount of data online that covers records from the last couple of centuries. Some of these databases have existed from a long time ago in the form of paper records. The largest of these records was held by the Church of Latter Day Saints, with others being held by governments, military records and organizations that were concerned with reuniting lost families, especially after the 2 world wars.

When the Internet came along, it was realized that putting these records online would help people find each other much easier. A consolidation of the records also meant that the databases held more information than ever before. The Church of Latter Day Saints was instrumental in funding a huge project to transcribe the paper records into electronic data, and over the years, the websites that were established have come to be relied upon as the best family tree archives that can be found anywhere.

There are other sources of valuable genealogical information too; governments still hold paper and computer records that they collect on births, deaths and marriages. If you look online and can't find the information that you're looking for, it's worthwhile to try looking at these offline records to see if your family's history is recorded there.

The best family tree creation software comes tailored to be able to connect to these online family tree archives so that at the click of the mouse, you can either download data for your family tree or upload any new information that you may have uncovered as you went about your genealogy project. It's important that you always be willing to upload all new information that you discover; you are helping the databases to grow, and you're also making sure that anyone else from your family trying to create their own genealogy will find the information that they need to create a tree that's complete.

Generally the online resources sources require that you interrogate them with some initial data, and you will find that most of them will ask for at least 2 names of the person you were looking for; others need more, and they may ask for a date of birth, death or marriage. Before you decide on which online databases you will use, make sure that you have a look at their requirements so that you can get the information you need as fast as possible.

There are some archives that come better recommended than others because they hold more comprehensive information or hold histories of minority groups like Asians, Hispanics and African-Americans. Have a look at these before you go into the smaller ones. Some family tree archives are also able to access information from smaller databases from a query on their website and these hold a greater advantage because you are looking at a bigger scope of information.

Man Before Adam

Since the dawn of Darwinism the debate over which came first, Adam or the ape, has interested the minds of scientists and philosophers, theologians and evolutionists, and ordinary people all over the world who are seeking answers about the beginning of mankind.

Many people confess belief in God, yet also believe humans have existed on the earth for more than 6,000 years. The scientific information we have been given seems to dispute the Creation, yet still we do not want to abandon our belief in God or discard what scientific research has discovered or achieved. However, science has not been able to conclusively explain just where that singularity of the Big Bang came from (which theory is entwined with evolution), nor have theologians given any comprehensive explanation of mankind's existence prior to Adam and Eve. Those who maintain mankind has been around far longer often blame this controversy on mistranslation or misinterpretation of the Bible. We also have our community of Creationist professionals who try diligently to prove God created all things and bring to our attention the astonishing perfection of our universe and that the mathematical probabilities of life having occurred are beyond mere chance. So how is this dilemma resolved?

Professor Einstein once proclaimed, "But also, everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that some spirit is manifest in the laws of the universe, one that is vastly superior to that of man. In this way the pursuit of science leads to a religious feeling of a special sort, which is surely quite different from the religiosity of someone more naïve." Dear Professor Einstein (pg. 29) Prometheus Books 2002

Man Before Adam

The most referenced book about the Creation is Genesis. There has been much controversy over the first two chapters. Some scholars propose two creations; others interject a third person named Lilith, as being responsible for the confused interpretation of the Creation story, and some even propose that Adam was created on the eighth day. However, a closer study of the two chapters reveals a startling new revelation that also explains where Cain's wife really came from and how mankind came to exist prior to the arrival of Adam and Eve.

The first few verses tell us that all that existed before the Creation was Darkness and the Spirit of God who moved upon the face of the waters. On the first day of Creation, God created Light and divided it from Darkness, and on the Second Day He created Heaven to divide the waters. On the Third Day God gathered the waters below the firmament and then brought forth land from the waters. Genesis 2:4-7 tells us that this was a time on earth before any plant life grew, before there was ever a man to till the ground, and before it ever rained, only a mist arose from the ground to water the earth. Verses 4-6 clearly state this is when God formed Adam from the dust of the ground and breathed life into him. Therefore, if God created Adam before any vegetation grew, then Adam's creation was also on the Third Day.

This is the first key to unlocking the mystery of the creation of man upon the earth. It is the missing link between science and religion, which must agree in order to obtain a comprehensive understanding of our existence upon this planet.

After the creation of Adam, God made every herb, plant, and fruit tree to grow, then planted a garden in Eden and put Adam there to tend it. The Fourth Day of Creation concerns our sun, moon, stars, galaxies, and all the glitter of our Universe. The Fifth Day of Creation all sea creatures and fowl came into existence. Companionship between Adam, sea life, and birds was limited. God realized the loneliness of Adam, which brings about the next round of events that took place on the Sixth Day. First on the list is the creation of land creatures.

God formed these creatures from the elements of the earth and then brought them to Adam to name and to be his companions so he would no longer be alone. This confirms Adam's creation before any other life came into existence (Gen. 2:18-19).

This is the second key to understanding the Creation.

Most likely, Adam had some form of communication with all creatures. He was a pure being, utilizing the full capacity of the mind. The beasts of Paradise were non-aggressive and vegetarian, not ferocious, fearful beasts. Adam was truly the "Tarzan" of Paradise and at one with all nature. Yet God realized that Adam still had no companion equal to him and was still alone. God then created a new creature, -- woman.

The creation of Woman was not from the elements of the earth, but from the flesh and bone of Adam. Her creation was after land creatures and most likely in the Garden of Eden. No other creature on earth was formed (or taken), from the flesh of another creature. This made woman a unique individual, something above the creatures of the land and equal to Adam. However, the Sixth Day did not end here. The last event to take place on the Sixth Day was the creation of mankind. Verses 24 -31 of Chapter 1 clearly state that mankind was created after the creation of the beasts of the field and therefore, after the creation of Adam and Eve.

God instructed humankind to be fruitful and replenish the earth and gave them dominion over all creatures. Mankind multiplied on earth for thousands of years while Adam and Eve continued to live in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were immortal beings having no sin; death had no power over them. Because they were immortal beings, Adam and Eve had no age. Once exiled to earth, Adam lived for 930 years and was 130 years old when their first son, Cain, was born.

Scripture does not reveal how long they lived in Eden, but by calculating the ages of the patriarchs, scholars have arrived at the year 4004 B. C. and people assume that to be the year of Adam's creation. However, it was the time of their exile, not their creation. When Adam and Eve appeared on earth after their expulsion from Paradise, mankind was busy farming, erecting megaliths, trading goods by sea and land, or invading his neighbors.

This explains man's existence on earth prior to 4004 B. C. This is the third key to understanding the mystery of Creation.

God exiled Adam and Eve to earth to live out a mortal existence, in other words, to die. They were the original ancestors of mankind through Noah and his descendants, and of the Jewish nation through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Moving on to Chapter 6, as time passed and men began to multiply on the earth, daughters were born unto them. The sons of God took daughters of men as wives. The generations from Adam to Noah are the "sons of God" that married into mankind. Their offspring were the "mighty men of old," known throughout the earth. Verse 3 of the same chapter informs us God set the years of man to be one hundred and twenty. The genealogies from Adam to Noah show the sons of God, the descendants of Adam, lived for several hundreds of years, far beyond the age of men. This tells us there was definitely a difference between the sons of God and mankind upon earth.

The generations of mankind did not evolve from the intermarrying of brothers and sisters of the children of Adam and Eve, as some propose. Incestuous relationships are an abomination to God and He did not intend for mankind to evolve from such relationships. The offspring of Adam and Eve and their future generations married the daughters of mankind, created on the Sixth Day.

This is the fourth key to understanding the Genesis Creation.

In addition, we now have a clear explanation of from where Cain's wife came. There are several answers, but never a satisfactory one. Simply, Cain's wife was of mankind. He was one of the sons of God who married a daughter of mankind. Sixth Day man was destroyed in the Great Flood. The survivors were Noah and his wife and his sons and their wives - wives who were also of mankind. We are descendants of Adam through Noah and his family, not Adam and Eve, Cain and his sister, and so on.

This is the fifth key to understanding the Creation.

These five keys offer between believing we came from Adam and Eve, or believing we came from apes. One of the main reasons people choose to believe in Darwinism and evolution is because of proof that mankind existed prior to 4004 B. C., thus, we must have come from apes and the Genesis Creation is not true. We can now intelligently decide because we now understand Creation as revealed in Genesis. We can choose to believe we used to live in trees or we can chose to believe a Divine Creator God created us and gave us intelligence in order to come to know Him as our Creator.

THE FIVE KEYS

KEY ONE: Adam was created on the Third Day. KEY TWO: Animal creatures were created after Adam and brought to Adam to name. KEY THREE: 4004 B. C. was the time of Adam and Eve's exile, not the time of their creation. KEY FOUR: Adam and Eve's descendants were the "sons of God" who married into mankind. KEY FIVE: Cain's wife was not his sister but was of Sixth Day mankind.

The most important key is the Third Key. Accepting the exile of Adam and Eve around 4004 B. C. opens the door for believing the remaining four keys as true also. It was not the year of Adam's creation, but the beginning of his life on earth. He lost his immortality when he chose to trust the word of the Serpent rather than the Word of God. The punishment for sin is death. Adam and Eve lived in Paradise as immortal beings not knowing sin, so therefore they could not experience death. Sin and evil cannot abide in the presence of God, which led to their exile on earth to live a mortal existence and to die.

The second most important keys are the First and Second Keys, which is to accept Adam's creation on the Third Day, and that all land creatures were created after his creation and brought to him to name. The second chapter of Genesis clearly states the time of Adam's creation was prior to the creation of any life, and the first chapter tells us mankind's creation was after the creation of land beasts on the Sixth Day.

Key Four clarifies that the "sons of God" were not angels but the descendants of Adam and Eve. Many interpret the sons of God as being fallen angels because Chapter 6 speaks of giants, or Nephilim, which in Hebrew means fallen, or mighty ones. First, this refers to the giants themselves, not their fathers, or the sons of God. Secondly, even if so, are not Adam and Eve also "fallen" ones? As mentioned previously, the Flood destroyed Sixth Day man and the only survivors were Noah and his family. However, David slays a giant, and there are other references to giants existing after the Flood. So, if the Flood destroyed mankind, how did giants come to exist afterward? The reason is that Noah and his sons married the daughters of mankind prior to the Flood, some of whom passed on this genetic characteristic to their offspring who became the mighty men of old, men of renown.

Key Five explains this even further by revealing that Cain's wife was not his sister but was also of Sixth Day man. Genesis clearly shows the descendants of Adam and Eve (the sons of God) married the daughters of mankind. (It is the daughters, as opposed to the "sons" of mankind, because it is through the son that inheritance of the father and genealogy continue.) Most likely, Cain's wife was from Nod since he moved there after killing his brother Abel. This also helps to confirm mankind's existence prior to the arrival of Adam and Eve. It is hard to imagine Cain building a city and naming it after his son if there was no one around to help him build it.

The majority of believers already accept that modern man descended from Noah and his families. Noah and his sons passed the genealogy of Adam and Eve to the present generations. Because of their longevity, the sons of God and their offspring of the women of mankind must have traveled all over the earth and became the "mighty men of renown." They were the heroes of ancient myths and legends, some worshiped them as gods, and some proclaimed to be gods or sons of gods. They knew of their ancestry, of those who once lived in Paradise. They had also inherited the ancient ancestral forbidden knowledge of good and evil, which both God and Satan proclaimed they possessed, and now Adam and Eve had become as one of them, knowing good and evil. This knowledge was not just the ability to discern right from wrong. It was the knowledge of all good and all evil. Astrology and astronomy, necromancy and the black arts, mathematics and architecture, all seemed to suddenly explode in the minds of mankind after 4000 B. C. and expand into new realms of intelligent creations and manifestations of power, both dark and light.

Although archeological evidence reveals mankind was around prior to 4004 B. C., he did not invent writing until after this period. There are numerous cultural legends throughout the world of a great deluge or even the creation of mankind, which are similar to events of Genesis and other stories of the Bible. It would appear evident these tales were generated by the sons of God as they spread upon the face of the earth and passed down the history of their beginning and previous generations.

Just as the left hand on the piano plays something different from the right hand, we have been hearing the story of the first two chapters of Genesis separately. Now we can hear both in harmony. Accepting the creation of Adam on the Third Day gives validity to the whole Creation epic as recorded in Genesis. There are no more discrepancies in the two chapters. Man has overlooked the truth for too long, or looked in the wrong places. When we can understand what the Creation was all about, then we can begin to understand what we are all about and better create our future. Our destiny is not in the stars, but within our minds. It is what we believe that will shape what is to come. We cannot remain lukewarm, believing in God and evolution. Whichever we choose to believe will determine whether there will be a life after this one. Even before Christianity, many cultures believed life continued. Evolution leaves no room for the spiritual. We will not "evolve" into spiritual beings. Alien life forms are not going to save or destroy humanity or life on earth, nor are we descendants of them or of their genetic engineering of themselves with earth apes.

We are intelligent beings and so much more than just some insignificant speck in space. We can proclaim ourselves as created beings of a divine nature, spawned from the heart and mind of a God beyond all gods, or we can belittle ourselves into a primate state of mind with no belief in anyone greater than ourselves. Of course, there is always the possibility in the vastness of this universe that giant insects evolved millions of years before us. Surely, they will devour our feeble minds.

Examples of Family Trees - Do Some Large Family Tree Examples Threaten to Overwhelm You?

Genealogy has been around since the beginning of human history. Originally, the family lineage was passed down through oral tradition and storytelling, and has been since ancient times. Family lineage began to be recorded on paper once the written word came about. Throughout history, different societies have traced origins in different ways, based upon the characteristics and traditions of those societies. For example, Native Americans trace their lineage differently than the ancient Greeks did; the ancient Greeks, for example, believed that they came from the gods. By medieval times, lineage became very important because it meant that land and title ownership was dutifully transferred to heirs.

Today, family trees can be made in many different forms, such that there are many different examples of family lineage formats. Choose the format that fits you best. For example, some people find it easier to follow a descendants' chart, which begins with the patriarch or matriarch at the top of the page and then branches downward to show the family descendants from that one individual. Another method is the ancestry chart. The ancestry chart begins with the newest generation at the bottom, and then branches upward and outward as more ancestors are uncovered. Charts can also branch from left to right.

You can also create themed trees. For example, you could include the descendants of a single figure in a tree, or you could include all the ancestors of a single individual. Or, your family lineage might trace your surname. There are trees that have been made to trace royal lineage. These particular trees are very fascinating, and also help place historical events properly, such as when members of one royal family married members of other royal families to expand empires.

Examples of Family Trees - Do Some Large Family Tree Examples Threaten to Overwhelm You?

One of the oldest family trees is that of Jesus Christ, which traced his genealogy back to Jesse, as it was depicted in a stained glass window in France's Chartres Cathedral, dating back to 1145. Among the first nonbiblical family trees to trace the entirety of family relationships, as compared to those constructed from strictly patriarchal lines, was the Genealogy of the Gods of the Gentiles, or Genealogia deorum gentilium, done by Boccaccio and dating back to 1360.

Confucius' family lineage is perhaps the largest known; Confucius lived from 551 to 479 B.C. This particular family tree includes 80 generations and boasts 2 million members. The Confucius Genealogy Compilation Committee has scheduled its next update for 2009. Today, there may still be over one million numbers living of this family throughout the world.

If looking at examples of very large and complex family trees threatens to overwhelm you, relax. Simply start with as many names and important dates for as many relatives as you can find, and then begin making your family lineage. You can do this in several different ways. For example, you can simply cut physical pieces of paper out with information on them and arrange them on poster board or paper. If you're good at drafting or drawing by hand, you can construct your family lineage by this method. Or, you can find sites on the Internet that have examples of family trees and templates that you can use for your own information. Then, you can generate your own family lineage online.

There are also professional family tree makers who will customize a family lineage for you with pictures, names and dates -- although this won't be free. That may take some of the fun out of it for you as well, because one of the most enjoyable parts of constructing family trees for many people is finding those names and dates, which can bring back old memories. Doing your own genealogical research can also strengthen bonds with family members. You can create your family lineage by hand, or you can do it on your computer and then later have a work of art made from it that you can probably display.

There are many websites out there that will help you create your own family tree. Simply type, "Make your own family tree" into Google, and you'll see just how many; in fact, there are over 40 million results for that one keyword phrase alone! Many of these sites are specifically meant for children, so that they can create their own family trees. Researching your own family lineage is never boring. Today's world is increasingly globally connected, and this makes genealogy research more rewarding, more productive, and easier, as those interested in genealogy post their own research on the Internet.

There is no right way to make a family tree; instead, there are many methods. Choose the method that makes the most sense and has the most meaning to you. Share the results of your research online, and you may just help someone else on the other side of the world discover who his or her ancestors are, too.

Your Family Tree Genealogy - Choosing the Correct Family Tree Charts For Your Family Search

How do you determine which type of family tree you want before you begin researching? Everyone putting together their family history is faced with certain choices. Who to include in the research? Where do I begin to research? These are all important questions that will determine the type of chart you decide to build.

When you are researching your family tree, you may just start out by finding out about grandparents and great grandparents but to find out who they really were and to find out those little, but important facts, you might want to consider broadening your research. There are several ways that you can do that, and below you'll find out about all the different charts that you can follow.

What is a family tree chart?
A family tree by definition is a diagram of someone's ancestry. So in essence it's a map or chart showing the members of a family, their relationship to one another and even the dates of birth, marriage and death. But a family tree is so much more than that. Or it can be. Depending on the type of tree you choose to create, it could include all the relatives, spouses and even friends and neighbors of a family.

Your Family Tree Genealogy - Choosing the Correct Family Tree Charts For Your Family Search

The types of Family Tree Charts
Mapping out your ancestry is a time consuming activity that involves close attention to detail and a desire to find the answers to those burning questions of who am I? And where did I come from? Before you begin, you need to know that not all charts are made the same.

Pedigree, Direct Lineage or Ascendant Family Tree Chart
The Pedigree Family Tree Chart is sometimes called a Direct Lineage or Ascendant Family Tree. This is perhaps the most common type and the one most people think of when referring to family trees. The pedigree chart begins with you (or a parent, or grandparent) and then follows a single bloodline or family name back through the generations as far back as you can go.

If you are researching your pedigree with both your mother's and your father's bloodline, your pedigree chart would start with you, then your parents would be listed, then both sets of grand parents would come next, then all four sets of great grand parents and so on.

If you are researching your father's surname and bloodline, the pedigree chart starts with you, then next on the chart would be your parents, then your father's parents, then your grandfather's parents and so on. In any case, the pedigree chart is the most common and is an excellent starting point for budding genealogists and for anyone interested in tracing their history and their direct bloodline.

Descendant Family Tree Chart
A Descendant Family Tree Chart is the opposite of the Pedigree Chart. This type of chart starts with an ancestral couple pretty far back in the family history and then lists the descendants of that ancestral couple generation by generation until the present. Usually the Descendant Chart is created after the Pedigree Chart is complete as a way to illustrate all known descendants of all lines of the family. The Descendant Chart can then become the outline for writing the family history.

Family Lineage Family Tree Chart
The family lineage family tree chart is similar to the pedigree chart but for one difference. In a family lineage chart, you would include the siblings of your direct lineage or pedigree. So you would include your aunts and uncles, great aunts and uncles and so on. This gives a more complete picture of the family rather than just focusing on your direct bloodline.

Family lineage charts are very helpful in identifying your family members and helps to keep all your ancestors organized. It also is an excellent way to find out about relationships between members of your pedigree and their siblings which can lead to you finding out more interesting facts about your family.

Where to Start?
If you are just starting your genealogy search you might consider developing a Pedigree Chart before you get too deep into your research. One problem that novice genealogists encounter is they get excited about the research and end up losing track of who and what they are researching. Although the research always turns up interesting facts and stories, you might get frustrated that you wasted time or didn't get to the ancestors you had hoped to find in the time you allotted for research. If you keep track of names, dates and places of your direct family line on a Pedigree Chart, you are less likely to get confused and go off on searches you don't need to do.

Free Printable Family Tree Charts
Get started right away by downloading a free printable family tree chart. Then begin by filling in all the information you already know like your name, your parent's names, your grandparent's names and so on. Now you have the beginning of an excellent Pedigree Family Tree Chart and a guide for your research. Your first research step after filling out the chart as much as you can, is to interview your parents and grandparents if possible and don't forget that aunts, uncles, cousins and siblings are a good source of information too. Good luck and have fun!

The article will not discuss the grief process. I mention it here to provide a clearer understanding of grief and help you write a sincere and heartfelt letter. Once you receive news of death, whether of a loved one, friend or family member, it is hard to escape the feeling of grief that envelops you. Understanding the components of grief will help you to write a sincere and heartfelt condolence letter. Here are some of the components of grief.

Condolence Letters - What to Say in Your Condolence Letter

1. Shock at the loss
2. Denial that the loss occurred
3. Searching yourself for an answer
4. Bouts of anxiety
5. A bit of sadness
6. A touch of anger
7. Feelings of guilt
8. Preoccupation and forgetfulness
9. Contemplation before accepting the loss
10. Letting go and moving on

Effects of a Condolence Letter on Grief
The grieving person goes through all of the above emotions and more. Your condolence letter will help them get through the various stages and will help them long after the funeral and for months and even years to come. Coming to terms with the death of a loved one is a long slow process so your letter may be appreciated soon after the death and years later as well.

The most important reason for writing a condolence letter is so that the grieving person can read and reread the letter as many times as needed to help them cope with their loss. Realistically, you can't be there for the survivors every time they need support, but your condolence letter offers comfort even when you can't be there.

The Seven Parts of a Condolence Letter
A condolence letter can be as long or as short as it needs to be to say what you need it to say. But what should you say in a condolence letter? Here are seven important parts of a condolence letter that will help you organize your thoughts and get your sincere sympathy out on paper.

1. Acknowledging the Loss
In the opening sentences of your condolence letter, let the person to whom you were writing know how you heard the news. Use it to express your sadness and dismay about the loss.

2. Express your Sympathy
In this next section of your condolence letter, let the person you are writing to know how much you care. How you share in their grief and sorrow. Above all, be honest. If you knew the person who passed away, express your sadness and offer support to the bereaved. Give them comfort, letting him or her know they are not alone during this time.

3. Write About the Deceased
Mention things you know about the deceased that brought joy to others. Recount some pleasant experiences with the deceased. Maybe about sports or travel-related. Use humor as you see fit.

If you did not know the deceased personally, you might mention things you heard from others. This gives the bereaved comfort in knowing others appreciated his or her loved one.

4. Talk about Memorable Occasions Involving the Deceased
Here you can mention how the deceased had an impact on your life. This could be work-related, school or community events. Add a sense of humor when referring to these events. Remember, laughter is a good medicine and can cure a lot of ills.

5. Talk About the Qualities of the Person to Whom you are Writing
In this section of your condolence letter, offer reassurances to the bereaved to help to boost self-confidence. Sharing emotions of grief, anger, sadness, guilt and soul-searching can help to heal. Do not be afraid to mention the person's strength in overcoming difficult situations in the past. Remind the person you are writing to how resilient he or she was in conquering a difficult situation. Grief will not last forever.

6. Make an Offer to do Something for the Bereaved
Most letters of condolence include an offer of assistance. If you feel like assisting, say so. Even if you have no desire to assist, still write a condolence letter. We usually offer our assistance out of courtesy to someone who is grieving. Without thinking, we often say, "Let me know if there is anything I can do!" You have to realize, this can put pressure on the bereaved to ask for your assistance. It would be better to offer specific assistance, such as picking up the kids from school, answering the phones, greeting people as they visit or helping to sort the letters and card that are coming in. Once you offer your assistance, be sure to keep your promise.

7. The closing
Be thoughtful in how you end your condolence letter. It is the last thing the bereaved will read. This is the part of your letter, he or she will remember for a long time. Let your words reflect your true feelings. You could use, "love', yours truly',"best regards" or with deepest sympathy. You could choose a condolence phrase from the list below to end your letter.

o May the peace, which comes from the memories of love shared, comfort you now and in the days ahead.
o May the comfort of God help you during this difficult time.
o We are thinking of you during this difficult time.
o Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel.
o Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer.
o You have my deepest sympathies on the death of your uncle.
o Oh, heart, if one should say to you that the soul perishes like the body, answer that the flower withers, but the seed remains.
o Our hearts go out to you in your time of sorrow.
o I was deeply saddened to hear of your loss. My thoughts are with you.
o I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family.

It may take some time to write your condolence letter, but it is well worth the effort. You may not ever fully appreciate what your condolence letter can do for someone else until you feel the impact of a loss of a loved one. But know in your heart that your written words can offer the comfort that is often so hard to say.

A condolence letter is an excellent way to honor and remember the deceased. The process of writing the letter may even help you with your own grieving process and help you come to terms with the loss.

Example of a Family Tree and Some Variations

Many people are a bit confused when it comes time to begin the presentation of their research and aren't quite sure how to begin. They are seeking examples of a family tree to coordinate their research into something that's viewable and pleasing to the eye.  It should be noted that the various examples of charts and forms are regularly referred to by different names. One of the most common is the Ancestral Chart that is also referred to as a Pedigree chart, they are the same form and the names are interchangeable. There are many designs and variations, but the main difference is where you start and direction of the branching. There are many examples of family tree outlines and the four most common are outlined here.

The Pedigree Chart (also referred to as: Ancestral or Box Chart)

This is an example of a family tree in its most simplistic form and uses lines that branch out, without the graphics and added niceties that many other charts will use. This format is particularly important for recording the details of each generation in your research. Most entries on this chart will contain, date of birth and death, place of birth and death and marriage date.

Example of a Family Tree and Some Variations

The pedigree chart starts with you placed on the left side, in the middle of the page. To the right of "you" are placed the details of your mother and father. Then you enter your father's father and mother, and your mother's father and mother. Then you enter the parents of your parents' parents and keep going. Each Pedigree chart has a continuation reference number, and an individual reference number that allows you to link multiple charts together.

The Fan Chart

The fan chart derives its name from the hand held fan used by ladies of means in years gone by. In this layout your family name is centrally placed at the bottom, forming the handle of the fan. Your maternal ancestors fan out on one side of the chart while the paternal ancestors fan out on the other. As with most charts, date of birth and death, place of birth and death and marriage dates of each generation are recorded on blades of the fan.

The fan chart is an example of a family tree outline that lends itself to your artistic flair by adding a border style to the boxes or adding different colors for each of the paternal and maternal lines of you and your spouse, or perhaps different colors for gender. You are restricted only by your imagination.

The Bow-tie Chart

This example of a family tree outline shows both paternal and maternal ancestry on opposite sides of the bow. At the center of the bow are two squares placed side by side. In one you put your name, and in the other you put your spouse's name.  Next to your name you place two vertical squares, one above the other with a gap between.  Put your father's name in the top square and your mother's name in the bottom square. This is repeated for your spouse and extended for many generations. With added graphical flair, this can be an attractive way to present your research. Most other forms like the Pedigree and Fan charts display only one line of lineage, either yours or your spouses, here both sides are presented.

The Pyramid Chart (also referred to as: Tree or Inverted 'V' Chart)

This example of a family tree is the one that generally comes to peoples mind when they hear the term "Family Tree Chart". This family tree example presents the same data as we have seen in the Pedigree and Fan charts, it is merely the layout and orientation that has changed.

Here, you place yourself or your spouse at the top center of the page and your ancestors branch downwards. This is the format that is used in many historical family trees. This same format can be reversed with your or your spouse at the bottom and the early family members at the top, this is referred to as an Inverted Pyramid or Inverted Tree.

These examples of family trees are not the only formats available by any means, but the most common forms used in Genealogy. Each can have many variations by adding photos or changing the orientation. Adding photos will make it more eye catching and personal, whereas changing the orientation may make it easier to fit a page. Changing the bow-tie format for example to a vertical orientation would fit better on a page and is known as the "Hour glass".

Family tree research isn't at all difficult, although there are a few tips that will make things easier for those who are just getting started. I hope our examples of family trees get you motivated to start your own family history project and build up your own family tree.
